Synthesis and characterization of metal complexes of a novel Schiff base
Abstract
The Fe(III), Ru(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Pd(II ), Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) complexes of a Schiff base derived from pyrazine-2-carboxamide and thiophene-2-carbaldehyde (PZATA: 1) have been synthesized and structurally characterized by various physico-chemical data. The ligand acts as a neutral, bidentate one towards th e metal ions coordinating through azomethine nitrogen and thioph ene sulphur. The geometry and the bonding character istics associated with the complexes have been deduced fro m relevant spectral data. Further ,the ligand and t he metal complexes have been screened for their antimicrobia l activity and the results are presented.
