Studies on schiff base transition metal complexes derived from benzil,p-nitroaniline and 2, 2¢-bipyridyl
Abstract
A new series of biologically active transition meta l complexes of Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II) and V O(IV) ion have been synthesized from the benzilidene-p-nitroanilin e and 2,2 ’ -bipyridyl. The structural features of the synthesi zed complexes have been arrived from their elemental an alyses, FAB-mass, IR, UV-Vis., 1 H-NMR and ESR spectral studies. From the observed data, all the complexes are square -planar geometry except vanadyl complex which shows square pyramidal geometry. Monomeric and elec trolytic natures of the complexes were confirmed fo r their magnetic susceptibility and molar conductivity meas urements. Cyclic voltammogram of copper complex was recorded in MeCN solution at 300 K and their salien t features well reported. Antimicrobial screening t ests gave good results in the presence of metal ion in the li gand system.
