Impact studies of Kevlar fibre reinforced siliconized iron oxide nanoparticles filled epoxy nanocomposites
Abstract
Nowadays most of the automobile parts are fibre rei nforced composites materials due to high strength. In this present work Kevlar fibre reinforced siliconized ir on oxide nanoparticles filled epoxy nanocomposites were prepared. Composites were prepared Kevlar fibre rei nforced epoxy filled 1, 3, 5 wt% of siliconized iro n oxide nanoparticles. Each composite have eight Kevlar fib re layers with 3mm thickness. Impact strength was s tudied as per the ASTM standards. Microscopic examinations ar e carried out to analyze the interfacial characteri stics of materials, internal structure of the fractured surf aces and material failure morphology by using Scann ing Electron Microscope (SEM). The results showed that the silic onized iron oxide nanoparticles were improving the impact strength as compared to iron oxide nanoparticles fi lled epoxy nanocomposites due to the better dispers ion.
