Ã?¢Ã?â?¬Ã?Ë?High-riskÃ?¢Ã?â?¬Ã?â?¢ consumers and food safety intervtion in the countryside of China
Abstract
In China, the cases and deaths occurred in the household occupied more than half of all the reported cases of food poisoning accidents and deaths, and it was estimated that 30%-40% of the cases occurred in the household, particularly in the household of countryside. The objectives of the study are to profile and identify high risk demographic groups in the countryside of China and therefore to propose intervention modes aimed at improving safe food handling behaviors. A survey (n=500) was undertaken and three ‘high-risk’ groups were identified: (1) males; (2) consumers with lower educational level; (3) consumers with lower income. Based on the survey results, we further proposed risk intervention countermeasures, such as providing food safety messages via leaflet and brochures. It’s necessary to establish a sustainable and efficient education-based risk intervention mode to improve household food safety.
