Effects of 2.4 GHz electromagnetic radiation on morphological and physiological characteristics in Cicer areitinum
Abstract
Electromagnetic field radiation is an important eff ective stress factor on growth and development of p lants. Plants are able to recognize and respond to their surround ing environment with high specificity. Our research focused on Cicer areitinum grown under 2.4 GHz electromagnetic field exposure and comparing them with the control . Two replicates were used in the experiment with 10 seed s in each sample. The seeds were spread on the moi st filter paper in Petri dishes before they were placed in th e experimental setup where they were exposed to ele ctromagnetic radiation of 2.4 GHz. Control seeds were placed und er similar conditions but without electromagnetic e xposure. Morphological and physiological comparison of the t reated and control samples showed that the percenta ge of seed germination has significant difference in average s hoot and root length. A significant decrease in th e leaf area, fresh and dry weight was observed. Physiological ex amination of experimental and control samples revea led significant decrease in the rate of chlorophyll a a nd chlorophyll b of electromagnetically exposed sam ples.
