Development and Validation of UV-Spectrophotometric Method for Piroxicam in Bulk and Pharmaceutical Formulation
Abstract
A new, simple, sensitive, precise and accurate spectrophotometric method has been developed in 0.1M methanolic HCl for the determination of Piroxicam in bulk and pharmaceutical formulations. Piroxicam is a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug which inhibits cyclooxygenase-1. The standard solution of Piroxicam in 0.1M methanolic HCl showed maximum absorption at 334.35 nm. Beer-Lambert’s law obeyed in the concentration range of 2.5-7.5 μg/ml, with regression, slope and intercept 0.997, 0.1019 and 0.1264 respectively. The percentage recovery is 99.79 which indicate that the method is free from interference of the impurities and other additives during the estimation of drug in formulation. The proposed method can be successfully used for routine quality control analysis of Piroxicam in bulk and marketed preparations. The results of analysis have been validated statistically and by recovery studies.
